Arrigo Barnabé

Born in Londrina, Paraná, in 1951, Arrigo Barnabé studied composition at ECA-USP between 1974 and 1979. In 1979, he won TV Cultura's university festival with Diversões Eletrônicas. The following year, accompanied by the band Sabor de Veneno, he recorded the LP Clara Crocodilo, which combines rock with twelve-tone series and the atonality of classical music, recounting, song by song, the story of a monster that emerges from a laboratory. The record placed him at the center of the Vanguarda Paulista, São Paulo's independent avant-garde scene, alongside Itamar Assumpção and Vânia Bastos. Tubarões Voadores followed in 1984, along with award-winning film scores and works for orchestra; his brother, Paulo Barnabé, led Patife Band.
