Comunidade S8 emerged within a Rio de Janeiro philanthropic institution of the same name that provided shelter for people with drug addiction; young people from the institution joined professional musicians to form one of the country's first progressive rock bands from the Protestant milieu. Alongside Os Cantores de Cristo and Rebanhão, it was one of the central names in the Christian progressive scene. The albums held in the collection, O Rio das Águas que Saram, from 1977, and Quem Deseja Ser Criança?, are the first in the group's discography. During the 1980s, its sound gradually moved away from progressive rock; its best-known song, "Nele você pode confiar," was recorded by Rebanhão in 1988 and by Milad in 1989.
