Os Canibais

The idea began with Aramis de Barros and Max Pierre, classmates at Colégio Souza Aguiar in central Rio; Os Canibais formed in 1965, with Aramis and Sérgio Ferraz on guitars, Elydio de Barros on bass, and Max Pierre on drums. In 1966, they played on television with Severino Araújo's orchestra, and the single "Gina"/"Sou Canibal" sold nearly 100 thousand copies. During a tour of the Northeast, they signed with the Pernambuco label Mocambo while performing in Recife; the label released their self-titled LP, filled with versions of foreign songs. The album Bongo followed on Musidisc, and the group ended in the 70s; Max Pierre and Aramis became producers. In 2012, the British label Mr Bongo released a record titled Os Canibais.
