Sérgio Sampaio

Sérgio Moraes Sampaio was born in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim (ES) on April 13, 1947, the son of a clog maker who was also a conductor and composer. At 16, he became an announcer at the local radio station and, at the end of 1967, moved permanently to Rio. There he met Raul Seixas, then a producer at CBS, and joined him, Miriam Batucada and Edy Star on the Sociedade da Grã-Ordem Kavernista album. The track that gives the album in the collection its title, performed at the 1972 Festival Internacional da Canção, became a hit and led to his first LP, produced by Raul and released by Philips in 1973, which sold poorly. Tem que Acontecer (1976) and Sinceramente (1982) followed. He died in Rio in 1994.
