Taiguara

Taiguara Chalar da Silva was born in Montevideo in 1945, during a series of performances by his parents, bandoneon player Ubirajara Silva and singer Olga Chalar, and grew up in Rio and São Paulo. He left his law studies at Mackenzie, made his recording debut in 1965 and established himself at the festivals of the 1960s with songs such as Modinha and Helena, Helena, Helena. In the following decade, he became a frequent target of censorship under the military regime. Imyra, Tayra, Ipy, recorded in 1975 with Hermeto Pascoal and Wagner Tiso, had lyrics written by his wife at the time, Ge Chalar da Silva, and was ultimately removed from stores by the police. He lived in exile in Europe and Africa and died in São Paulo in 1996.
