The Galaxies

Formed in São Paulo around 1967, the Galaxies had an unusual lineup for the local garage-rock scene: Brazilians Zeca de Aquino on drums and Alcindo Maciel on bass, American Jocelyn Anne Odams on vocals and maracas, and English guitarist and singer David Charles Odams. They sang in English, without resorting to the Portuguese-language versions common in the Jovem Guarda, Brazil's 1960s rock'n'roll wave, and chose a repertoire attuned to the rock circulating abroad at the time. Their only LP, The Galaxies, was released in a small pressing in 1968. The following year, David and Jocelyn married and left for the United States, and the band came to an end. In 2016, the record was included in Bento Araújo's book Lindo Sonho Delirante.
