THE BAND
Damião Ferreira da Cruz was born in Santo Amaro de Ipitanga, now Lauro de Freitas, in Bahia, and moved to Rio de Janeiro as a boy. A Navy radar operator, he was medically discharged in 1963; from 1974 onward, he released his own records, credited under variations of his name (Daminhão, Experiença, Experyença) and connected to an imaginary universe, Planeta Lamma. The records appeared on his own label, and he sold them on the street or gave them away whenever he wished. He opened shows for Luiz Melodia in the 1970s, formed the band Planeta Lamma, and became the subject of a documentary. He died in Rio in 2016.
