De Kalafe
THE BAND
Denise de Kalafe was born in Ponta Grossa, Paraná, in 1949, and released her first singles as De Kalafe in the late 1960s. Accompanied by her group, she recorded Sonny Bono's Bang Bang and Beatles' This Boy, followed by Guerra and Mundo Quadrado, both by Arnaldo Sacomani. In 1969, she placed second at the I Festival Mundial da Canção Latina. In 1972, she moved to Mexico, where she built a career as a singer and songwriter: she won first prize at the 1978 Festival OTI with El amor... cosa tan rara and wrote Señora, señora in tribute to her mother.
