Pessoal do Ceará

THE BAND

Born in Fortaleza in 1945 and educated at Universidade Federal do Ceará, Ednardo belonged to the generation of artists that critics grouped under the label Pessoal do Ceará (roughly, “the Ceará crowd”), alongside Fagner, Belchior, Amelinha, and Fausto Nilo. In 1973, with Rodger Rogério and Teti and arrangements by Hareton Salvanini, he recorded Meu Corpo, Minha Embalagem... for Continental, an album whose subtitle bears the group's name. His breakthrough came in 1976, when "Pavão Mysteriozo" opened the soap opera Saramandaia. He was the first to record "A Palo Seco," later made known in Belchior's voice, and in 1979 he was a central figure in Massafeira Livre, a gathering of artists from Ceará at Teatro José de Alencar; the following year, the group recorded the double album Massafeira in a Rio studio.
