THE BAND
Hermeto Pascoal was born in Lagoa da Canoa, then a district of Arapiraca (AL), on June 22, 1936; the English-language Wikipedia gives Olho d'Água das Flores. Because he was albino, he could not work in the sun and taught himself to play his father's eight-bass accordion. He worked at radio stations in Recife, Caruaru and João Pessoa before arriving in Rio in 1958 and later moving to São Paulo. He formed Sambrasa Trio with Airto Moreira and was a member of Quarteto Novo, which recorded in 1967. In 1971, he appeared on Miles Davis's Live-Evil and recorded A Música Livre de Hermeto Pascoal, which MusicBrainz associates with the Fontana label. He died in Rio in 2025.
