THE BAND
A duo formed in 1984 by viola player and composer Ivan Vilela with singer Priscila Stephan, devoted to recovering the lyricism of songs from Minas Gerais. Vilela came from the groups Pedra and Água Doce, both dedicated to researching the roots of the music of Minas. The 1985 LP Hortelã documents the duo. After earning bachelor's and master's degrees in composition from Unicamp, he moved to Campinas in 1989, joined the group Anima from 1992 to 1999, and adopted the viola caipira as a solo instrument in 1995.
