Luli & Lucinha

THE BAND

Luli (Heloisa Orosco Borges da Fonseca, born in Rio de Janeiro in 1945) and Lucina (Lucia Helena Carvalho e Silva, born in Cuiabá in 1950) formed a duo of songwriters, singers, and viola players that appeared at the Festival Internacional da Canção in the early 1970s with "Flor lilás". During the 1970s, they went to live communally on a rural property in Mangaratiba, on the Rio de Janeiro coast. Ney Matogrosso included songs by the duo on nearly all his albums, among them "Bandoleiro", "Me rói", and "Bugre". The LP credited to Luli & Lucinha, dated 1978 by Discogs and 1979 by MusicBrainz, was produced, recorded, and distributed by the two musicians themselves. In the 1980s, they founded the Movimento de Música Independente. The partnership ended in the late 1990s; Luli died in 2018.
