De com Força... Prá Frente

THE BAND

Formed in 1965 in the Rio de Janeiro neighborhood of Campo Grande, the group acquired the nickname "bandinha de Campo Grande." Trombonist Zezinho was the leader; his brother Paulinho played trumpet, Fernando Soares handled guitar and wrote many of the compositions, Paulo Cesar played bass, and Sérgio played drums. After appearances on José Messias's program Barra Limpa on TV Rio, they signed with RGE. De Com Força... Pra Frente was released in 1967, combining songs by Carlos Imperial, Roberto Carlos, and Sérgio Reis with their own material. A second LP followed in 1968, and the group disbanded as the Jovem Guarda, Brazil's 1960s rock'n'roll wave, lost momentum; Paulinho played with Alcione for many years.
