Alceu Valença & Geraldo Azevedo

Alceu Valença's first LP, made as a duo with Geraldo Azevedo and also known as Quadrafônico, was released in 1972; the collection record lists Discos Mariposa as the label. Alceu was born in 1946 in São Bento do Una, in Pernambuco's agreste region, listening to singers at street markets and to his grandfather, a poet and viola player; at ten, he moved to Recife. A law graduate, he left legal practice and journalism for music and went to Rio de Janeiro with Geraldo, where both entered university festivals. At TV Tupi's festival, Planetário went unranked because the orchestra was unable to play the arrangement. In 1996, the duo reunited for the project O Grande Encontro, with Zé Ramalho and Elba Ramalho.
