Cassiano

Genival Cassiano dos Santos was born in Campina Grande in 1943 and arrived in Rio as a boy, where he worked as a bricklayer's assistant and learned mandolin and acoustic guitar from his father. He played with Bossa Trio and formed Os Diagonais with his brother Camarão. In 1970, he played guitar on Tim Maia's first LP, which produced hits with his songs "Primavera" and "Eu Amo Você"; with Tim and Hyldon, he helped open the way for soul made in Brazil. Apresentamos Nosso Cassiano was released by Odeon in 1973, with ten of his own compositions. "A Lua e Eu" and "Coleção," both soap opera themes, followed, until a lung operation in 1978 forced him to step away from his singing career. He died in Rio in 2021.
