Belchior

Antônio Carlos Belchior was born in Sobral, Ceará, in 1946. As a child, he sang at street markets as a repentista; later, he spent three years with Capuchin friars in Guaramiranga and studied medicine in Fortaleza through his fourth year, leaving the course for music in 1971. He belonged to the so-called Pessoal do Ceará, a group of singer-songwriters from Ceará, with Fagner, Ednardo and Amelinha. That year, he won the IV Festival Universitário with Hora do Almoço, and in 1972 he reached a national audience when Elis Regina recorded Mucuripe, co-written with Fagner. He made his recording debut in 1974; Mote e Glosa, the LP in the collection, was released that year by Chantecler. His greatest success came later, with Alucinação. He died in 2017 in Santa Cruz do Sul (RS).
