Fagner

Raimundo Fagner grew up in Orós, in inland Ceará, the youngest son of a Lebanese immigrant; sources disagree on whether he was born in Fortaleza or Orós. He won a festival in Ceará in 1968 with Nada Sou and joined Belchior, Ednardo and Rodger Rogério in the Pessoal do Ceará, a group of singer-songwriters from Ceará. In Brasília, where he attempted to study architecture, Mucuripe, co-written with Belchior, placed first at a university festival, and Manera Fru Fru, Manera placed sixth. In Rio, he saw Elis Regina record Mucuripe. His first LP, named after the other song, was released by Philips in 1973, with Naná Vasconcelos, Ivan Lins and Nara Leão; Canteiros, based on verses by Cecília Meireles, led to a lawsuit filed by the poet's family.
