Robertinho de Recife

Carlos Roberto Cavalcanti de Albuquerque was born in Recife in 1953. At age 10, he was hit by a car and spent nearly a year unable to walk; during that time at home, he saw the Beatles on TV and fell in love with the guitar. By 12, he was already playing in local bands such as Os Moderatos and Os Bambinos and, in the late 1960s, accompanied Jerry Adriani and Rosemary. In 1971 he left to play country and blues in the United States, until he was involved in another car accident. Back in Recife, he studied at Seminário Teológico do Norte and played in churches, where Fagner first heard him—the beginning of a long partnership. His solo debut, Jardim da Infância, was released in 1977.
