Luiz Carlos Vinhas

A pianist and composer from Rio de Janeiro born in 1940, Luís Carlos Vinhas was among the musicians of bossa nova and performed at Beco das Garrafas. He played on recordings by Maria Bethânia, Jorge Ben Jor, Elis Regina and Quarteto em Cy. He led Bossa Três, which released The Bossa 3 on the American label Audio Fidelity in 1963 and became Gemini V in 1966, by then featuring the voices of Pery Ribeiro and Leny Andrade. In 1964 he appeared on O Som by the group Meirelles e Os Copa 5 and recorded Novas Estruturas for Forma. O Som Psicodélico was released by CBS in 1968. He died in Rio in 2001, two days after suffering cardiac arrest during surgery.
