A Barca do Sol

Nando Carneiro and Muri Costa met in an architecture college-preparatory course in Copacabana and began playing guitar together, with Marcelo Costa on percussion. The band was formed in Rio in 1973. Scholarships secured by Egberto Gismonti took the trio to the music festival in Curitiba, where Dori Caymmi introduced them to other musicians, among them Jaques Morelenbaum and Beto Rezende. On their return, they accompanied the singer Piry Reis and signed with Continental. Their 1974 debut LP was produced by Gismonti and featured lyrics by poets of the Geração Marginal, Brazil's countercultural literary generation, including Geraldo Carneiro and Cacaso. Durante o Verão (1976) and Pirata (1979) followed; the group disbanded in 1981.
