Arthur Verocai

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1945, Arthur Verocai completed his civil engineering degree at PUC-Rio in 1968, by which time he was already entering songs, some written with Paulinho Tapajós, in university festivals and the Festival Internacional da Canção. From 1969 onward, he worked as an arranger, wrote for Ivan Lins, Gal Costa, Jorge Ben and Elizeth Cardoso, and directed the music for TV Globo programs. The LP he recorded for Continental in 1972 crosses samba, bossa and soul; it went almost unnoticed in Brazil, and he exchanged his career as a recording artist for advertising jingles. In the 2000s, hip-hop producers in the United States began sampling its tracks, Ubiquity reissued the album, and Verocai returned to composing with Encore and No Voo do Urubu.
