Carlos Walker

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1955, Carlos Walker Soares Luna began early: at 14, he started singing professionally after winning a festival in Santos whose jury included figures such as Johnny Alf and Alaíde Costa. RCA Victor signed him in 1973, and the following year "Alfazema," from the soundtrack of Dias Gomes's soap opera O Espigão, ranked among the leading songs on the national chart. A Frauta de Pã followed in 1975, recorded with João Bosco, Hélio Delmiro, Radamés Gnattali and Laércio de Freitas. In the '80s, he produced Onda, a reinterpretation of Tom Jobim that grew out of a meeting with João Gilberto. He is also a writer and astrologer and is additionally known as Wauke.
