Erasmo Carlos

Erasmo Esteves was born in 1941 in Tijuca, Rio, and learned his first guitar chords from Tim Maia. He sang in The Snakes, the group that accompanied Roberto Carlos and Tim, and, briefly in 1962, also in Renato e Seus Blue Caps. His partnership with Roberto began with his first single, in 1964, the year of Festa de Arromba. On TV Record's Jovem Guarda, the show at the heart of Brazil's 1960s rock'n'roll wave, he became the Tremendão. In the following decade, influenced by hippie culture and soul music, he released Carlos, Erasmo in 1971, opening with De Noite na Cama, a song Caetano Veloso wrote for him. He died in Rio in 2022.
