Golden Boys

Golden Boys emerged in Rio de Janeiro around 1958 as a doo-wop vocal quartet comprising the brothers Roberto, Ronaldo and Renato Corrêa and Waldir (or Valdir) Anunciação, a school friend introduced to the public as their cousin. They began as contestants on Rádio Mauá and, still in 1958, had a hit with Meu Romance com Laura on Copacabana. During the Jovem Guarda, Brazil's 1960s rock'n'roll wave, they also established themselves as songwriters, and in 1968 they placed third at the Festival Internacional da Canção with Andança, alongside Beth Carvalho. Around the turn of the 1970s, they appeared on records by Erasmo Carlos, Marcos Valle and Som Imaginário. Fumacê, the LP in the collection, was released by Odeon in 1970; Renato left the group the following year.
