Júpiter Maçã

Flávio Basso was born in Porto Alegre in 1968 and taught himself to play guitar as a boy. In the 1980s, he helped found TNT and Cascavelletes, pioneers of the rock scene in Rio Grande do Sul—the latter known for the "porno rock" of "Nêga Bombom", featured in the soap opera Top Model. After performing as Woody Apple, he adopted the name Júpiter Maçã in 1995. A Sétima Efervescência, released by the independent label Antídoto, offered an experimental form of psychedelia, with Frank Jorge and Marcelo Birck among its guests; Rolling Stone Brasil included it among the 100 greatest Brazilian albums. In English, he became Jupiter Apple. He died in 2015 in his native city.
