Manduka y Los Jaivas

The son of Thiago de Mello, a poet from Amazonas, and journalist Pomona Politis, Manduka was born in Petrópolis in 1952 and moved to Chile at the age of 18. In 1971, he acted and composed for A Estrela do Sol, an unfinished film by Glauber Rocha; in Santiago, he composed with Geraldo Vandré, and in 1972 his first LP was released by RCA Victor. After the 1973 coup, he traveled through Argentina, Venezuela, and Europe. Los Sueños de América, recorded with the Chilean musicians of Los Jaivas, belongs to these years on the road; sources date the album to 1978 (Portuguese Wikipedia) or 1979 (English Wikipedia and MusicBrainz), the year he returned to Brazil. In 1980, he won the TV Tupi festival with "Quem Me Levará Sou Eu", written with Dominguinhos and sung by Fagner. He died in Rio in 2004.
