Marcos Valle

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1943, Marcos Valle studied classical piano from childhood and entered music through the second generation of bossa nova, in a trio with Edu Lobo and Dori Caymmi, in 1961. With his brother, lyricist Paulo Sérgio Valle, he composed "Samba de verão", which reached number two on the American charts in 1966 in Walter Wanderley's recording. He spent seven months in the United States playing in Sérgio Mendes's Brasil '65. In the 1970s, he wrote themes for soap operas and co-wrote Globo's year-end theme. Vento Sul, released by Odeon in 1972, belongs to the period after his return to Brazil, when, under the military dictatorship, his songs took on a darker tone; in 1975, he moved to Los Angeles.
