Olívia Byington

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1958, Olivia Byington studied piano, guitar, and violin from childhood, entered Pró-Arte in 1975, and sang on jingles while still a teenager. In 1977, she formed the group Antena Coletiva with Jaques Morelenbaum. The following year, she recorded Corra o Risco for Continental, accompanied by Barca do Sol and produced by Geraldo Carneiro; in 1979, "Lady Jane" reached number one on the charts, and Sérgio Cabral named her the decade's best singer. She recorded in Cuba at the invitation of Silvio Rodríguez, shared the stage with Tom Jobim and Radamés Gnattali, and, in the 1990s, paid tribute to Aracy de Almeida on A Dama do Encantado.
