Formed in São Paulo in 1965 under the name Rubber Souls, Os Baobás changed their name at the suggestion of Ronnie Von, who took the word from O Pequeno Príncipe. They debuted on Rozenblit's Mocambo label in 1966 with a single featuring Pintada de Preto, a version of Paint It Black, and released four more singles, including Happy Together with Down Down on the B-side. They moved from beat music to psychedelia on their only LP, released in 1968. Liminha played bass in the group before joining Os Mutantes; he was replaced by Tico Terpins, later of Joelho de Porco. They also accompanied Ronnie Von and Caetano Veloso.
