Os Diagonais was founded by Cassiano, his brother Camarão and their friend Amaro after Cassiano’s time with Bossa Trio. The group drew chiefly on soul music from the United States and recorded the LP Os Diagonais, released by Epic in 1969. It was the ensemble’s only album with Cassiano, and his work on it caught the attention of Tim Maia, who brought him in to play guitar and compose for his first album, released in 1970.
