Zegê & The Silver Jets

Behind the name Zegê was José Geraldo Juste, a native of Rodeiro, Minas Gerais, who grew up in Governador Valadares. In 1966, a bus accident on the Rio-Bahia highway ended his plans to play soccer; during a year in a hospital in Carangola, he learned his first chords. While recovering in Santos, he joined The Black Cats, a dance band in which he sang in English. He recorded three singles for Rozenblit and, in 1970, this LP with The Silver Jets, released on the Mocambo label. Recognition came after he won festivals late in the decade: now known as Zé Geraldo, he made his CBS debut in 1979 with Terceiro Mundo and made "Cidadão," by Lúcio Barbosa, his signature song.
