Arnaldo Baptista

Born in São Paulo in 1948, the son of pianist Clarisse Leite, Arnaldo Baptista studied classical piano with his mother and abandoned the path of a concert pianist for rock when the Beatles arrived. In 1966, he founded Os Mutantes with his brother Sérgio Dias and Rita Lee, playing bass and keyboards. He left the group in 1973 and recorded Loki?, his first solo album, the following year. Produced by Roberto Menescal and Mazzola, it featured Rogério Duprat and Rita Lee among its guests. Patrulha do Espaço followed, along with a serious fall during a psychiatric hospitalization and LPs on Baratos Afins. Based in Juiz de Fora, he paints and writes; the documentary Loki (2008) traces his life and career.
