Dércio Marques

A viola player, singer, and researcher born in Uberaba to a Uruguayan father, Dércio Marques found one of his principal stage and production partners in his sister Doroty. He debuted in 1977 with Terra, Vento, Caminho on the Discos Marcus Pereira label, bringing together songs by Atahualpa Yupanqui, then nearly unknown in Brazil, a composition by Elomar, and pieces of his own. Canto Forte, on Copacabana, and Fulejo, inspired by the congadas of Minas Gerais, followed. The collection also holds Segredos Vegetais, a work released as a double album. He also devoted himself to children's records and the defense of the cerrado, and died in Salvador in 2012.
