Nelson Angelo & Joyce

Nelson Angelo was born in Belo Horizonte in 1949 and began playing guitar at the age of ten. While performing in the Minas Gerais nightlife in 1966, he grew close to Milton Nascimento and the circle that would become Clube da Esquina, the Minas Gerais songwriting collective; that same year, he moved to Rio. He joined Luiz Eça’s A Sagrada Família alongside Joyce, and in 1971 formed A Tribo with her, Toninho Horta, Novelli and Naná Vasconcelos. The LP with Joyce was recorded during this period and appears in discographies as a 1972 Odeon release. The couple had two daughters who became singers, Clara Moreno and Ana Martins.
