Pholhas

Pholhas was formed in São Paulo when Hélio Santisteban, Oswaldo Malagutti and Paulo Fernandes left Wander Mass Group and invited guitarist Bitão to join them; their first rehearsal took place in 1969. All of them sang, and the lyrics were in English, written with the help of a textbook belonging to Bitão’s father. On RCA Victor they released enormously successful singles such as She Made Me Cry and My Mistake, followed in 1973 by the LP Dead Faces, consisting entirely of their own songs in English. The album was later released in the Spanish-speaking market as Hojas. The band subsequently began recording in Portuguese as well.
