Born in Santos in 1945, Renato Teixeira grew up in Ubatuba and Taubaté, where he became acquainted with música sertaneja while working in radio. Living in São Paulo from 1967 onward, he entered the festival era: "Dadá Maria" was a finalist at the III FMPB in Gal Costa's voice, and "Madrasta" reached the following festival with Roberto Carlos. In 1972, "Marinheiro" qualified for the VII FIC; the following year, he released the LP Paisagem through Sinter. With Banda Água, he began exploring old caipira themes—a path that reached audiences nationwide in 1977, when Elis Regina recorded "Romaria". Collaborations with Almir Sater and Grammy Latino awards followed later.
