Rita Lee & Tutti Frutti

Rita Lee Jones was born in São Paulo in 1947 and began singing in 1963, first in Tulio's Trio and then in Teenage Singers, the group that would become Os Seis. She gained national prominence as a vocalist and instrumentalist with Mutantes, where she remained until 1972. Her solo career took firm shape with Fruto Proibido, released by Som Livre in 1975 and recorded with the band Tutti Frutti, an album regarded as a landmark of Brazilian rock. In the years that followed, working with guitarist Roberto de Carvalho, whom she married, she released enormously successful albums such as 1982's Rita Lee e Roberto de Carvalho. She became the country's highest-selling female singer and died in São Paulo in 2023.
