Tavinho Moura

Otávio Augusto Pinto de Moura was born in Juiz de Fora (MG) on August 9, 1947. He lost his father as a boy and grew up in Belo Horizonte, in the Floresta neighborhood. In the late 1960s, while moving through the festival circuit in Minas Gerais, he became close to Milton Nascimento, Toninho Horta, Lô Borges and Beto Guedes, the circle known as Clube da Esquina, the Minas Gerais musical collective. He began his career composing film scores in 1972 and did not make his LP debut until 1978, with Como Vai Minha Aldeia on RCA Victor. Much of his work adapts folklore from Minas Gerais, as in Calix Bento, drawn from the Folia de Reis tradition. He set Drummond's poem Cabaret Mineiro to music in 1981 for the film by Carlos Alberto Prates.
